Give-A-Bible
Have you ever stopped to think about the privilege and blessing it is for those of us in the "Western World" to have a Bible in our own language. Sometimes multiple Bibles, both audio and text, varying translations, with or without concordances. As I know a lot of people have a daily morning devotional I want for you to imagine with me the following scenario...
You wake up early one morning, perhaps a little groggy from a late night the day before. You stumble out of bed and begin whatever is your daily routine. Perhaps you are like me and you head to the kitchen for that first cup of coffee. You breath in the aroma and grab a cup along with your Bible and go to your dining room table or wherever you do your morning devotions. You sit down, take a nice hot sip of coffee and open your Bible only to discovery that it isn't printed in your own language or worse yet, it isn't even a Bible? Now imagine with me that you suddenly realize there are no Bibles in your own heart language and you have no chance of interacting anymore with the Living Word of God!
The above scenario is one that hundreds of millions of people worldwide are faced with on a daily basis. What's worse is many of them don't realize that they are missing out on something that Proverbs says is more valuable than gold or silver and that Jesus said was more important than bread(Matt 4:4). Psalms compares the Word to a light and a lamp unto our feet. How many are stumbling in darkness, unaware that there is a bright light that can help them!?! More importantly what are we willing to do about it?
Davar Partners International has multiple projects specifically dedicated to this issue, ranging from the facilitation of Bible translations for oral learners in their own heart language to simply providing audio Full Bibles. One way you can be a part is via the Give-a-Bible project. For R375 or $37.50US you can sponsor one Audibible being put into the hands of an oral learner. One more important thing to note though is that based on statistics that Davar has gathered from partner ministries and those who have received Audibibles these units impact far more than just the one person receiving them. In fact based on Davar's research one Audibible unit will be listened to by as many as 500 people per year or roughly 50 people per month!
